A Psychedelic Love Story

This is a love story from start to finish, through and through, on all accounts. It starts with me sitting in A’s kitchen, vape pen in hand, wondering if I am going to die or go mad after the first inhale. It takes us beyond death and madness, to real and happening realms of symbols, creatures, love beyond love that intensifies with every blown-out layer. And it ends—nowhere, in the thick, expanding darkness of an ayahuasca tent, sense of endurance, endlessness, completion that keeps happening after it knows itself to be complete. I thought I was writing about synchronicities plucked from the dream place and chaotically, exuberantly integrated, but in reality, I was doing something much more human and falling in love with my best friend. This adventure is a fairground, psychedelic in fabric and structure, and our relationship is the magic holding it together.
